Boston University School of Social Work Receives HRSA Grant

The Boston University School of Social Work Off-Campus Program, in collaboration with six Massachusetts community-based mental and behavioral health treatment centers located in medically under-served communities, has received a 3-year grant from Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) for the In the Community Mental Health Training for Social Workers Program (ICMH). The ICMH will increase the number of social work graduates trained in empirically-supported assessment and intervention for trauma, mental health and substance use disorders in medically underserved communities.

The grant provides field education stipends to students placed in collaborating agencies in New Bedford, Lowell and Lawrence, Mass. A Boston University ICMH Advisory Committee of faculty from SSW, GRS Psychology and MED will work with community and agency stakeholders to plan and implement training activities. Students will receive advanced clinical training through coursework and will join agency staff and field advisors for six seminars annually designed to help attendees better serve the target population in their community.

The proposal to HRSA was developed under the leadership of Associate Dean for Research Lena Lundgren, in collaboration with Dean Gail Steketee, Assistant Dean Mena Dasilva-Clark and Assistant Professor Nikki Wooten.
