BUSSW Community Makes Strong Showing at SSWR’s 2020 Annual Conference; Sponsors Stacey Abrams Keynote

BUSSW faculty, students, and alumni recently joined social work researchers from across the country for the 2020 Society for Social Work & Research (SSWR) Annual Conference, a four-day event held in Washington, DC. Over the course of more than 500 presentations, workshops, symposia and roundtable discussions, the BU social work community engaged in a wide-ranging critical discourse on topics spanning social policy, population health, child welfare, economic inequity and more.

The school also co-sponsored the Annual Social Policy Forum, which featured political leader Stacey Abrams’s keynote speech, Voter Disenfranchisement among Vulnerable Populations. Abrams, a former minority leader in the Georgia House of Representatives, became a major political figure during her 2018 gubernatorial campaign during which she became the first African-American female major-party gubernatorial nominee in the United States. Abrams continues to participate in state and national politics through her new organization Fair Fight 2020 which aims to assist Democrats in improving voter protection laws.
