Professor Cooney to Present at ARNOVA Conference

Kate Cooney, Assistant Professor in the BUSSW Macro Department, is chairing a session at the 2007 Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Associations (ARNOVA) conference in Atlanta, November 14 to 17. This year’s conference theme is “The Global Pursuit of Social Justice: Challenges to Nonprofits & Civil Society.”

Dr. Cooney will chair a session entitled, “International and Comparative Perspectives on Social Enterprise” and will give a presentation as part of a colloquy entitled “A New Environment forNonprofits and Government in Social Service Provision: A Colloquy on Key Issues and Trends.” Professor Cooney will discuss her research on workforce development with disadvantaged populations, social

enterprise, and market-based strategies for poverty alleviation. She is joined on the colloquy panel by Deborah Auger, University of Delaware; Steven Rathgeb Smith, University of Washington; Stephen Wernet,

Saint Louis University; and Eric C. Twombly, Georgia State University.
