BUSSW Celebrates National Public Health Week
Marking National Public Health Week (April 6-12), Boston University School of Social Work and the Group for Public Health Social Work Initiatives (GPSI) announce the launch of the Campaign for Public Health Social Work (PHSW).
The Campaign for Public Health Social Work raises awareness of the importance of public health and the many contributions that public health social workers play each day in creating a foundation for a healthy America. “This campaign has been designed to reflect this year’s theme of National Public Health Week: Building the Foundation for a Healthy America,” states Betty J. Ruth, director of the MSW/MPH program. “Half of all social workers across the US work in health and health-related settings, and many of these professionals are public health social workers. On a daily basis, public health social workers are providing the support, resources and prevention expertise to address the needs of nations, communities, neighborhoods, and homes.”
To celebrate the week, BUSSW kicks off the Campaign on Monday with the release of publichealthsocialwork.org, an awareness site for the profession. The site is designed to clarify the role of PHSW, its historical roots, and the latest trajectories of interdisciplinary research. Additionally, a new profile of a public health social worker will be released each day to share the many varied and exiting ways social work and public health have intertwined, solving the challenges facing every level of our nation’s health.
