In a recent interview on the BU Sargent podcast Health Matters, BU School of Social Work alumna Margie Pettingell (SSW’89) described her experience as she pursued a new certificate in Interprofessional Leadership in Healthcare, developed by BUSSW and Sargent College. The certificate’s pilot project included 30 alumni from various Boston University schools.

quotation markOne of the things that was helpful about this course was that when I was working in this everyday world of healthcare and leadership, I could have 30 colleagues that were very helpful. I’m a behavioral health social worker, so working with other physicians, occupational therapy, rehab folks that are medical, I realized all of the same problems I was having with leadership were the same as their problems. It didn’t matter what your discipline was. What mattered was: how do you get staff to respond to you? There are many theories on ways to go. Matching the academics with the work that you’re doing was the most helpful thing about the course that I experienced.”

The joint program is supported by Boston University Digital Learning & Innovation (DL&I) and spearheaded by project leaders at Sargent College and BUSSW, including Research Assistant Professor Bronwyn Keefe, director of BUSSW’s Network for Professional Education, and Sargent College’s Karen Jacobs and Craig Slater.
