Dean Delva Elected to NASW-MA Board

Dean Jorge Delva of Boston University School of Social Work has been elected to the board of the National Association of Social Workers’ Massachusetts Chapter (NASW-MA), the local branch of the nation’s largest membership organization of professional social workers. His term begins on July 1, 2022.

As an NASW-MA board member, Delva will be an influential contributor to the Chapter’s programming and advocacy efforts, and will help implement its newly completed strategic plan for 2022-2025.

Delva is a nationally recognized expert on substance use disorders and ethnic health inequities and author of more than 160 publications. His research focuses on understanding cultural variations in the etiology of substance use and mental health in order to inform interventions and policies, particularly for those in underserved communities in the US and globally.

In addition to his role as dean of BU School of Social Work, Delva is director and Paul Farmer Professor for the School’s Center for Innovation in Social Work & Health (CISWH) where he works to expand social work’s impact in healthcare and public health. He also serves as a member of the external advisory board for the University of Michigan Center for Clinical & Health Research and the internal advisory board for BU’s Clinical & Translational Science Institute. He is a fellow of the Society for Social Work & Research and the American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare, and a past editor-in-chief of Social Work, the flagship journal of NASW.
