BU Honors Profs. Gómez, Keefe & Spencer at Teaching, Research & Scholarship Celebration

Boston University will honor BU School of Social Work faculty members Jennifer M. Gómez, Bronwyn Keefe, and Renée Spencer at its annual Celebration of Teaching, Research & Scholarship on April 25, 2023. 

The ceremony, conducted by BU President Robert A. Brown and members of BU’s academic leadership, will recognize faculty who received national awards in 2022 for contributions to their field.

Jennifer M. Gómez– 2022 Outstanding Contribution Award in Training & Education in Professional Psychology, Association of Psychology Postdoctoral & Internship Centers (APPIC)

Jennifer M. Gómez, PhD, a Black feminist trauma researcher and race scholar, is an assistant professor at BUSSW and a faculty affiliate at the School’s Center for Innovation in Social Work & Health. Author of the forthcoming book “The Cultural Betrayal of Black Women & Girls: A Black Feminist Approach to Healing from Sexual Abuse,” she specializes in trauma-informed care, racism and intersectional oppression, and cultural competency and humility. The award was presented to Gómez and co-authors Annmarie Caño and Boris Baltes for their article examining barriers to doctoral program admission for ethnic minorities.

Bronwyn Keefe – 2022 Tideswell Emerging Leader in Aging Scholar, University of California San Francisco

Bronwyn Keefe, PhD, is a research assistant professor and assistant dean of workforce and professional development at BUSSW, and serves as director of the School’s Center for Aging & Disability Education & Research and its Network for Professional Education.. A leading expert in aging and gerontology, she is passionate about educating practitioners and making an impact on their knowledge, skills and values in key practice areas with older adults. Her research is centered around behavioral health and aging and the intersection of aging and disability programs and policies. As a Tideswell Emerging Leader in Aging Scholar, Keefe is participating in a year of  programming designed to connect and elevate leaders in the aging field.

Renée Spencer – 2022 Fellow, American Academy of Social Work & Social Welfare (AASWSW)

Renée Spencer, PhD, a professor and department chair at BUSSW, is a nationally recognized researcher who studies how supportive relationships with adults can promote positive youth development. An expert in youth mentoring, gender and qualitative research, she currently co-leads projects funded by the U.S. Department of Defense and the Templeton Foundation. Spencer’s selection as an AASWSW fellow recognizes her accomplishments as a leading scholar in the social work field.
