The Betty J. Ruth & Ken Schulman Scholarship Fund Is Now Permanently Endowed to Support Social Work Students

BU School of Social Work (BUSSW) is pleased to announce that the Betty J. Ruth and Ken Schulman Scholarship Fund has been permanently endowed after reaching the university’s $100,000 minimum requirement in donations. The fund provides scholarships to MSW students demonstrating financial need, expanding graduate degree access to those who otherwise may not be able to afford it.
The named founders of the scholarship fund have contributed a combined 75 years of service to BUSSW and BU School of Public Health. “We are thrilled that the scholarship fund established in our names has reached a permanent endowment,” said Ruth and Schulman. “It is so important to us to grow the opportunities to address student financial need, and we are pleased that this fund will be contributing to that effort. Our heartfelt thanks go out to all the donors to the fund. We also are deeply appreciative of the support of Dean Barbara Jones and former Dean Jorge Delva; Kate DeForest, director of school development; and Ray Joyce, assistant dean of development.”
As a permanently endowed fund, the Ruth/Schulman scholarship will live on in perpetuity by using the income earned on the invested donations to support BUSSW students. The fund will continue to accept donations which will ensure the endowment’s growth and its ability to provide funding for future social work students.
