BU School of Social Work hosts HPPAE reception, showcases Lowy-GEM Program in Aging
Tonight BU School of Social Work hosts a Regional Normalization Event for the Hartford Partnership Program for Aging Education (HPPAE) and showcases its Lowy-GEM Program in Aging.
Dean Gail Steketee delivers introductory remarks to invited guests and community members at the Metcalf Trustees Lounge, 1 Silber Way, starting at 6 pm. The School’s Lowy-GEM Program in Aging has been recognized by the Social Work Leadership Institute (SWLI), of the New York Academy of Medicine (NYAM), as being a successful HPPAE model program. The Lowy-GEM Program is designed to train MSW students to become leaders and skilled practitioners, prepared to meet the critical needs of the growing older population, their families and the organizations that serve them. The School welcomes representatives from all schools of social work in the New York and New England areas to Boston to learn more about this HPPAE model.
HPPAE is an eight-year initiative coordinated by SWLI at the New York Academy of Medicine and funded by the Hartford Foundation. HPPAE works to train over 1,000 social workers to work with older adults using a specialized field education model for MSW students. Based on innovative partnerships between community-based agencies and universities, the HPPAE model offers students extensive, hands-on experience in serving older adults, and their families.
