BUSSW Alumnae Appointed to Massachusetts Governor’s Commonwealth Readiness Project
BUSSW alumnae Jackie Jenkins-Scott (’73) and Dennie Butler-MacKay (’89) have been appointed to positions with Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick’s Commonwealth Readiness Project to improve public education. Jenkins-Scott, who is President of Wheelock College, is a Co-Chair of the Project’s Leadership Council and Butler-MacKay, President and CEO of Leaders of Tomorrow, Inc., has been appointed to the Whole Child Subcommittee.
According to a press release from the Governor’s Office, “These volunteers will address the following issues from a systemic perspective, offering specific recommendations for state action.
“Working in partnership with the Readiness Project Leadership Council that was named last month, subcommittee members have been tasked with putting their practical, on-the-ground experience implementing education programs and services to work. The subcommittees will identify specific state actions, offer cost projections and benchmarks to help carry the Commonwealth forward in education over the next decade. The Project’s Leadership Council will synthesize the work of the subcommittees and offer a draft comprehensive 10-year strategic plan that will be submitted to the Governor.”
The subcommittees include: Assessment and Accountability; Curriculum Alignment; Early Education and Care; Education Technology; Expanded Teaching and Learning Time; High School Plus; Innovative Schools; Long-Term Funding; MCAS and Assessments; Public and Private Education; Recruiting and Retaining Educators; Whole Child; and UMass and Public Higher Education.
