BUSSW Professor Emerita Cassandra Clay Appointed to BU Board of Overseers
Boston University School of Social Work Professor Emerita Cassandra M. Clay (SSW’79) was recently appointed to the Boston University Board of Overseers, an advisory body that acts as informed advisors to the University Trustees and administration on important issues. Overseers also serve as a University resource by volunteering leadership, expertise and financial support to the University, and will be involved in the Academic Program Review process led by Provost Jean Morrison.
Clay, who began teaching at the School of Social Work in 1986, is now a professor emerita and member of the Dean’s Advisory Board. From 2005 to her retirement in 2009, she chaired the clinical practice department. Clay’s experience on the Dean’s Advisory Board and as a faculty member have given her an understanding of the strengths and needs of the School of Social Work. In the next five years, she hopes to see more scholarships and field education stipends for students, faculty grants for community-based research and doctoral research assistance.
“I appreciate BUSSW because of its talented faculty who are committed to quality teaching, practice and research. I also welcome the School’s approach to giving students a holistic view of social work, grounded in social welfare, policy, social and economic justice, and ethics.” said Clay.
Clay currently runs a private counseling practice. She is also the program chair for a child health and wellness project with the BPS King School and a women’s service organization in Boston. To read more about Clay, visit the BU Today article announcing her appointment.
