BUSSW Seeking Candidates for Assistant Dean of Field Education

Boston University’s School of Social Work is seeking candidates for the Assistant Dean of Field Education position. With over 100 years of social work education experience, BUSSW offers programs and platforms to meet the needs of our students. The School’s mission is to develop dynamic and diverse social work practitioners, leaders, and scholars through rigorous teaching, innovative research, and transformative community engagement.
As the signature pedagogy of social work education, Field Education is an integral component of the MSW curriculum through which students gain professional practice experience in social work settings. The Field department has an explicit commitment to advance a just and compassionate society that promotes health and well-being and the empowerment of all oppressed groups.
The Assistant Dean for Field Education has overall responsibility for all aspects of the field education program, including program administration and evaluation, development of the field curriculum, field placement activities that support the School’s mission and curriculum, monitoring students’ in field placement, and involvement and leadership in the BUSSW, University committees and professional organizations. They will supervise a dynamic staff and interact with various stakeholders including students, alumni, faculty, advisors, field instructors, and community agencies. They report to and will work closely with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs to ensure the School’s Field Education program meets accreditation standards outlined by the Council of Social Work Education.
Required Skills
A minimum of a Master’s degree in Social Work, with 5 to 8 years of successful administrative and supervisory experience. LICSW or licensure eligible in MA required.
The candidate will have advanced communication skills, strong interpersonal and decision-making skills, an ability to be flexible, analytical and organizational, increasing responsibility and successful higher education administrative experience, and experience developing and implementing field education curriculum and competency-based education. CSWE re-affirmation experience preferred.
