Deciding on Grad School in Social Work and Choosing BUSSW
Initially, I was interested in pursuing a career in pharmacology and medical field. However, I felt frustrated at the inequities and injustice that I witnessed in my work in this setting. After working closely with a marginalized population in Los Angeles Skid Row, I felt more drawn to a career in social work. I hope that my personal and professional background will help me serve and empower the disenfranchised population within social work and public health setting.
My areas of interest include immigrant, refugee, newcomer population in urban cities; public health policy, and preventative care. I chose BUSSW because I was interested in working with diverse immigrant and refugee population in Boston. I was also interested in learning more about Boston’s urban health and gentrification policy. BUSSW also had more impressive faculty, research, alumni, and fieldworks support compared to other social work programs in the nation. Lastly, I always wanted to live on the East Coast, so BU was a perfect choice for me.
