CRITERIA FOR STUDENTS ENTERING FIELD SUMMER 2020 SEMESTER

During this time of prolonged uncertainty about the Coronavirus (COVID-19), BUSSW will continue to suspend face-to-face field placements until June 1st, 2020. Toward the end of May, we will re-evaluate this decision one we have more information about the ongoing pandemic.

Students who have confirmed summer placements may begin if permitted by their host agency. Field coordinator/director will contact field placement site to identify an Alternate Field Placement Work Plan until stay-at-home orders are lifted. Students work collaboratively with advisor, the field education department, and agency to complete learning agreement and move forward with placement.

If a student has a confirmed summer placement but cannot engage in an Alternate Field Placement Work Plan, the Field Education Department will work collaboratively with student and advisor to identify appropriate BUSSW field readiness trainings. Student will begin placement once stay at home orders are lifted.

Students and advisors must confirm that the agency is able to provide appropriate supervision in order to utilize an Alternate Field Placement Work Plan (found on the Field section of COVID-19 web page).

Students in employer-based pPlacements are not allowed to conduct face-to-face-field education tasks or assignments. However, students may utilize an Alternate Field Placement Work Plan

EXPLANATION OF FIELD EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • If a student is below the required hours to pass/receive a J the student can complete a percentage of missing hours with alternative remote activities unrelated to the agency
  • If a student has not achieved ‘competence’ or ‘advanced competence,’ the student, the field instructor and advisor will work together to develop an Alternate Field Placement Work Plan that provides the student opportunities to develop knowledge and skills in the identified competencies. If students are unable to achieve competency via an Alternative Field Plan they will need to do additional placement hours in their current placement or receive an Incomplete and complete additional hours/activities in their next placement.  An Incomplete Form will be utilized to document additional work.

If a student has not completed the required number of process recordings/analyses, the student, field instructor and advisor will discuss clinical or macro cases or interactions that can form the basis of additional recordings/analyses. These will be reviewed by the field instructor and/or advisor. Please see below for specific numbers.
