First Thursday Program Focuses on Bullying

Bullying is the most common form of violence in our society.  According to the National Association of School Psychologists, between 15 percent and 30 percent of students are bullies or victims, and bullying has an effect on children that can last a lifetime.

As part of its First Thursday Program, the School of Social Work is hosting a panel presentation and discussion  on Thursday, May 5.  The panel will address a variety of bullying-related topics including community-level prevention, Massachusetts law, cyber-bullying, and suicide prevention.  The panel will also be discussing the HRSA’s 10 Elements of Best Practices in Bullying Prevention.

The panel will be comprised of local social workers experienced in issues related to bullying.

The First Thursday Program is an educational series sponsored by the School’s Alumni Association.
This event is free and open to the School of Social Work Community.   Attendees can receive 1.5 social work continuing education credits (CECs).

The panel will take place in Boston University’s College of Arts and Sciences at 725 Commonwealth Avenue in Room 211 from 7:00 to 8:30p.m.
