General Purpose of Position:
To bring youth into personal relationship with Christ and furthering them in their journey of discipleship.
Organizational Relationship and Supervision:
Youth group leader reports to the Pastor and Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPRC) for spiritual and ministry guidance. The Pastor, in cooperation with the SPRC, provides an annual evaluation of the youth leader’s performance.
The Primary Task:
- Encourage you in developing their relationship with God
- Show youth Christ’s love through loving them individually and meeting youth where they are spiritually.
- Provide them with opportunities for nurture and growth.
- Challenge them to respond to God’s call to serve in their communities and world.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, develop, and implement a youth ministry that connects Biblical knowledge with everyday life situations within the church and community.
- Mentor youth in developing their relationship with Christ and understanding of discipleship.
- Connect with other youth and community organizations that relate to youth ministries.
- Manage the youth ministry budget.
- Maintain communication with church staff and leadership, parents, and the congregation as a whole using all available resources.
- Be available to the youth.
- Ensure that the Safe Sanctuary policy is observed in all youth settings.
Minimum Qualifications and Aptitudes:
- Must have a positive personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a basic knowledge of the Bible and Christian theology.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, conflict management skills, and computer skills.
- Must possess a proven ability to work effectively with youth, diverse individuals, and teams of volunteers.
- Must be Safe Sanctuary approved, which includes a background check.
