Exploring the Cardiovascular Effects of Modern Anti-Diabetic Treatments
While anti-diabetic drugs are widely used in clinical practice for blood sugar control and to delay complications of diabetes, several anti-diabetic drugs – including GLP-1 receptor agonists and SGLT2 inhibitors – have also been shown to prevent adverse cardiovascular events and cardiovascular mortality. Anti-diabetic drugs thus have an important role to play in cardiovascular medicine, with considerable potential for preventing further cardiac events in select populations.
